First look: Greg Natale’s striped wallpaper for Porter’s Paints

I love a sneak peek and here’s an exclusive first glimpse at Sydney interior designer Greg Natale’s striped wallpaper designs for Porter’s Paints.

Greg looking at chevron prototypes

Greg says: “The collection will feature a horizontal, diagonal, 1cm and chevron stripe. I wanted to create a collection of stripes that I couldn’t find in the market. The collection will be available in over 20 different yummy Porter’s Paints colours.” (That includes gold, how exciting!) [Read more...]

The launch of The Home, Cleo photoshoot and a trip to Project 82

Wow, yesterday was a big one and I have the blisters to prove it. In the morning I visited Project 82 in Surry Hills, which is about to turn two! More on this later in the week but I thoroughly recommend a visit. They’re in Fitzroy Street (number 82, would you believe it?!). Then at lunchtime I was off to ACP in Park Street for a photoshoot for Cleo magazine. My story about how I took blogging full-time will be in the January issue (out in December). I had my hair and makeup done and it was lots of fun. Everyone was lovely and it wasn’t half as painful as I thought it would be. After all, I HATE having my photo taken! Then in the evening I stopped by the launch party for The Home (which used to be called Dalani) where it was great to catch up with Mr Jason Grant and hear all about his book, which is almost finished and out next year. THEN I met my girlfriends for dinner. PHEW. Today I’m just meeting my accountant…

I’m loving: Kelly Wearstler’s My Vibe My Life

Interior, and more recently fashion designer Kelly Wearstler is so cool that if I ever met her I think I would be a starstruck mess. She’s also super talented and a great sharer and her blog My Vibe My Life is one of my favourites.

In it you’ll find plenty of photos of her work, her vintage finds, street art and plenty of colour. It’s inspiration central. And there are also plenty of gratuitous photos of Kelly looking fabulous in killer heels and wonderful clothes. So for a serious dose of cool, you know where to go…

I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of her new book Rhapsody either!

Dining in Design: Restaurant Arras

Dining Design: Restaurant Arras

Paul Smith pinstripes, neon perspex and graffiti art meet in this fine dining restaurant without the pretension. In my new series about restaurant and bar interiors, I took a closer look at Arras in Sydney’s CBD, which manages not to take itself too seriously.

I sat down for a fantastic lunch with Liz Boyd of Colourmark Design, the designer behind the space, which used to house Justin North’s Becasse. A year after moving from its tricky Walsh Bay location (where it had a loyal but underground following) to prime CBD real estate, business has never been better and Arras’ design was just this month highly commended in the Eat-Drink-Design Awards. 5 easy ways to freshen up your living room

Happy Friday! It’s almost the weekend! Looking for a project? Here’s five easy ways to freshen up your living room.

1. Fresh flowers. No room is finished until it has some flowers in it and boy, do they make a difference. They don’t have to cost a lot either. I buy most of mine from Woolies or my local fruit shop. Mix it up and display them in different vessels: jam jars, chemistry flasks (helps having a future brother in law who is a scientist!), tins (if they’re waterproof), bottles, jugs, whatever. Open your cupboards and think about what might look cute with a few blooms in it (The Renovators host Robyn Holt agrees).

2. Style up your coffee table. No, not just for cups of tea and the odd mag, think of it as a mini display of things you love. Add a stack of books (you could go as far as colour coordinating your spines, you could just pick the prettiest looking ones or the ones you like flicking through he most). Add a candle, perhaps some fresh flowers (watch your vase isn’t too tall and could get knocked over) or a potted succulent and perhaps a tray. My own coffee table currently has a gorgeous hunk of amethyst on it but its contents change by the week (no, really). It’s a bit of fun and a nice focus for your space that says a bit about you. Megan Morton’s new book: “All my tricks and best of all, all my treats.”

Stylist Megan Morton’s much anticipated second book Things I Love, is finally out today. Hooray! You may have been getting into the spirit already over on Instagram where Megan and I have been running a seven-day photo challenge (winner to be announced any day now). If, for some BIZARRE reason, you’re still not sure whether to go out and buy it, I’m here to tell you a little more.

I’m lucky enough to have seen a copy already and it really is something special. Not that I’m surprised. Everything MM does tends to be a bit magical.

“While it is definitely a book, it really is so much more,” she says. “You see there is a cut out and keep section. We will call them postcards but they are so much more than that!” (One of them has a pineapple on it, yay! I’m having an argument with myself over whether to tear them out or not! Yes, I know tearing them out is the whole point!). ”Do you remember cutting up your magazines and collaging your folder? Well I wanted to regain that sense of wonder I had for magazine pictures and create some you could cut out, frame, collage, fill a pinboard. Because it really is the essence of styling.” [Read more...]

A place for everything & everything in its place

It’s the kind of saying a neat freak like myself comes out with all the time. So I was drawn to this cool little invention for storing your specs (or sunnies), keys, wallet and other bits and bobs!

There’s even a concealed (nice and neat, lovely!) space for your phone charging cord and there’s room for other things on that slide-out bit, like maybe a tie or one of those office security cards you wear around your neck. Inspired! Made of solid Ash and Birch ply, it fits all iPhones, including the new 5. And there’s no denying The Butler is a nice bit of (American) design! [Read more...]
