Brisbane’s The Calile Hotel has again been named in The World’s 50 Best Hotels awards; the only hotel in Australia and the Oceania region to be included every year since the awards’ inception.

This year it ranked 34 in the world after placing 12th in 2023, and 25th in 2024.
The third edition of The World’s 50 Best Hotels was announced last week at an awards ceremony in London featuring industry-defining hotels spanning six continents worldwide. The event showcased exceptional hotel experiences set to inspire consumers, travellers and hoteliers around the globe.
In attendance for the ceremony, The Calile Hotel co-owner Catherine Malouf said she was extremely proud to again represent the Malouf family owners and employees on the international stage at such an esteemed celebration.

“To have been selected three years in a row marks a significant affirmation of The Calile’s place on the global hotel industry stage and reinforces our reputation as a desirable destination for international travellers coming to Brisbane, Australia. As a family-run business this acknowledgement is a testament to the values and standards that our team continues to deliver, and we are humbled to again represent Australia and our region.”
Also in London for the celebration, general manager Chris Kemlo, said being included was not only an important win for The Calile, but also for Brisbane and Australian tourism.
“Being recognised among the world’s best hotels for the third consecutive year is an incredible honour and a testament to our remarkable team. Their professionalism, consistency, and genuine care for our guests define The Calile experience for which we are known.
“This recognition celebrates their collective dedication to creating memorable guest experiences, and we are humbled to once again represent Australian hospitality on the global stage.”

Since opening in 2018, The Calile continues to be recognised worldwide for its thoughtful sub-tropical design that embraces climate and community, providing a unique urban experience beyond that expected of a five-star hotel. The Calile continues to partner with arts organisations and its retail neighbours to create cultural experiences for its guests and community, turning the hotel into a civic space for like-minded individuals to come together to connect and learn.
The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2025 was revealed as part of a live countdown from No.50 to No.1. The ranking is complemented by a host of special awards alongside the first ever 51-to-100 list and reflects the very best travel experiences around the globe, collated from the votes of 800 anonymous experts. This voting panel – the 50 Best Hotels Academy – comprises a balanced mix of hoteliers, travel journalists, educators and seasoned luxury travellers, led by a group of industry-leading Academy Chairs.
The Calile embodies a relaxed urban style that satisfies the needs of a sophisticated traveller seeking more. Anchored in, respecting, and collaborating with its community, it is committed to caring for the environment and forging genuine connections with its like-minded family of locals, guests, neighbours and partners.

All rooms invite the climate in, with 175 generous guest rooms, including nine suites and two premier suites – featuring a mix of individual Juliette, poolside and terrace-style balconies and two private rooftop terrace suites named after the founding family’s original patriarch and matriarch, Calile and Ada Malouf.
Designed with the guest experience in mind, open-air spaces and breezeways link to rooms appointed for comfort – cork floors and sisal matting give way to marble bathroom finishes, dedicated living areas with day bed and dining table, custom linen robes, organic bath amenities and a locally sourced mini bar.
Beyond the room and leisure facilities designed to help guests embrace the authentic charm of the sub- tropical locale, The Calile is anchored in the centre of one of Australia’s leading lifestyle locations, the James St precinct with award-winning restaurants, boutique shopping from Australia’s leading designers and gallery, design havens.
