When Melbourne content creator Sarita Holland, together with her husband and three teenage children, moved into their Aberfeldie home almost two years ago, the only thing missing was a pool. โWe promised our children that our next house would have a pool and it really was a non-negotiable for us,โ says Sarita, who engaged the talented team at Mint Design to transform what was a relatively small and uninspiring space into something quite the opposite.
Lacking warmth and charm, the original backyard was dominated by concrete and decking and it wasnโt really a space the family could enjoy until the Mint team offered their very stylish solution. โWorking with Mint was a game changer. They helped us bring our vision to life in ways we never imagined, and we went with the first plan they put forward โ we didnโt change a thing!โ says Sarita who has trouble visualising spaces and thus found Mint’s 3D renders a very helpful part of the design process.
Compact yet striking, the space was transformed into a wonderful space to host family and friends with its combination of pool, spa, fire pit, BBQ and deck and dining table setting. โThe yard is small so we wanted to make the best use of the space and, for me, thereโs no point in having a pool without a spa as with Melbourne weather, the spa will likely be used more,โ says Sarita.
The renovation has resulted in big changes for Sarita’s children also who are really enjoying using the area with their friends. โIt’s gone from being a house where our kids never had friends over to being constantly filled with kids. I like being able to keep an eye on them too, especially during the teenage years,โ says Sarita.
And while the backyard renovation involved significant financial investment, Sarita is certain it will pay off and that the pool will become a significant drawcard when they eventually sell. โWhen the time comes to sell our home, our backyard will undoubtedly steal the spotlight. The pool has elevated our property to new heights.โ
Sarita and her husband, former football star Brodie, knew Mint were the people for the job after seeing the job they did at The Real Dads of Melbourne’s holiday home.

What an amazing pool it is! It completely changes the property’s look. Now, it looks like a very lavish property. But I think you should also build a patio to protect the pool area from sunlight. It will also give your property more value.
