Following the resounding success of their initial collaboration, Brickworks and celebrated Australian designer, Adam Goodrum, have introduced a second iteration of Kite Breeze – a refined, contemporary evolution of the iconic late modernist era breeze block, thoughtfully reimagined for today’s urban landscapes.

A fusion of sculptural geometry and purposeful functionality, Kite Breeze is rooted in Goodrum’s design language. Featuring a half-inset panel, the form of the block engages dynamically with the elements – casting a distinct pattern of light and shadows and directing gentle airflow to create a sensory experience with materiality, for a considered and captivating design statement.

Now proudly manufactured by UrbanStone at their Jandakot facility in Western Australia, the Kite Breeze is instilled with true Australian character whilst retaining the engineering excellence afforded by UrbanStone. With an updated 300x300x90mm wet cast format, the block features a milled finish across both faces, accented by recessed sections that expose a raw, off-form surface for a tactile and visually expressive presence.
“I was brought up in Perth, Western Australia. Known for its blinding sun and scorching heat, and famously strong southerly breeze nicknamed ‘The Fremantle Doctor.’ All were indelible parts of my childhood and so too were breeze blocks as they sheltered the front door of our modest family home,” says Adam Goodrum.

“When I think about it now – the dappled light, the cooling breeze and decorative entrance they provided – I realised I always held a fascination for them. Kite encapsulates not just a story of childhood or place, but also my design ethos and my love of geometric art.”
Available in four distinct colourways, the palette takes its cues from the Western Australian landscape. From Sunset Sand – echoing the hues of the Lancelin Sand Dunes at sunset – to Paperbark Beige – inspired by Lucky Bay, known for having the whitest sand in Australia – the collection showcases a range of tones curated to suit any style or project.
Brett Ward, General Manager of Marketing at Brickworks, notes: “We were excited to revisit our collaboration with Adam Goodrum on Kite Breeze, and equally pleased to manufacture the evolution of this product locally here in Australia with the expertise of our UrbanStone manufacturing team.”

Inherently versatile and renowned for its flexibility, Kite Breeze transcends the boundaries of conventional materiality. Equally suited to residential projects and large-scale commercial endeavours, Kite Breeze is crafted with an architectural integrity that seamlessly integrates form, artistry, and a uniquely Australian way of living.
