As regular readers know, we love affordable interior solutions here at Interiors Addict and thus were pretty excited to discover that the Swedish design company Bemz is now shipping to Australia. Essentially, if your IKEA sofa needs a refresh, or you simply want to customise it, Bemz is your brand. The company produces tailor-made covers for IKEA furniture (as well as other home textile products) made out of high-quality natural fabrics and with prices starting from around $300 for a two-seat sofa, it’s much cheaper than purchasing something new!
Founded in 2005, Bemz not only produce covers for IKEA sofas but can cover their armchairs, chairs, footstools, bed frames and headboards too. The brand also offers non-IKEA made-to-measure home textile products including cushion, daybed, mattress and beanbag covers, bed skirts, bedspreads and made-to-measure curtains.
The fabric selection is pretty impressive too – not only are they all made from 100 percent natural fibres (Panama cotton, linen/cotton blend or 100 percent linen), there are 250 to choose from! Aside from the myriad prints and plains, the brand introduced a sustainable collection of recycled cotton in 2015. Plus, the entire range is machine washable which is fabulous for those with little ones or anyone who is partial to the odd glass of red!
Constantly adding new designs to their stable, the company runs the annual Bemz Design Award where students are invited to submit their textiles for inclusion in the range.
The company collaborates with leading brands too – most recently they’ve worked with Littlephant and Designers Guild. The latter collaboration produced a fabulous floral print (a vision in burgundy, aubergine, olive green and violet tones) which would have to be one of the most affordable ways to get a bit of Designers Guild into your home!
