As lovers of theirย local art scene, the girls behind lifestyleย brand Kip & Co decided it was highย time to shine a light on the talented artists they had been crushing on.
[contextly_sidebar id=”NqB5OizWhvb7RRfk1KSByrub0RsqPONj”]Askingย all budding arty-typesย to send in their own design for their chance to win a Kip & Co prize pack and, more importantly, see their print as part of aย limited edition Art Series Beanbag collection, hundreds of entries beganย pouring in. “We spent hours drooling over the weird, wild and wonderful creative minds out there” explains Kip & Co co-founderย Alex van der Sluys. “Itโs made us even more pumped about the depth of talent both local and global โ a serious smorgasboard of arty goodness!”
Narrowing the hundreds down to four, today Kip & Co introduce their first ever Art Series Beanbag collection, featuring the work of Letitia Green,ย Devinder,ย Mr Smudge andย Rawaan.ย
Letitia Green, whoย has a background in design and illustration, combined traditional batik style influences and African inspired block print symbols of flora to create her beanbag, urbanย echo. Aย happy clash of chaos and rhythm; colour and line bounce playfully together to create an energetic and uplifting design.
Devinder, who after a break from fine arts is just getting back on the creative wagon, took guidanceย fromย fiber arts for her beanbag. With the piece beginningย as aย random simple line stitching on paper, Devinder had no plans in mind, before inspirationย struck!
Mr Smudge, a surfer and graphic designer with a passion for illustration, based his beanbag print on the many characters he’s met through surfing;ย from surf crazy youth to surfboard salesmen.
Rawaan is an artist and writer from Dubai, who currently lives in Brooklyn, New York. A textile designer her winning print,ย Sticker Collection, was inspired by the sticker albums of herย youth, full of a motley collection of all kinds of tiny precious stickers.
