The creme de la creme of Australia’s kitchen and bathroom design were celebrated at the KBDi annual conference and awards in Melbourne earlier this month with these standout designers taking home the top gongs.
Nathan Wundersitz of SpaceCraft Joinery won KBDi Australian Certified Designer of the Year 2024. The Adelaide designer and long-time KBDi member took home the hard-earned title with a stunning kitchen design (pictured above and below) and superb documentation.
The specialist certified judging panel described this project as the perfect example of KBDi accredited qualities. They said: “The kitchen design is perfectly balanced, cleverly restrained and truly timeless.” The designer overcame a number of challenges in the existing space, successfully creating a design that met the client’s brief for a ‘clutter-free, functional, open-plan space’. Much like the kitchen, Nathan’s documentation was clean, clear and precise, earning a perfect score in the technical marking criteria. The judges deemed this entry an absolute hands-down winner.
Wollongong’s Sarah Nolen of Birdblack Design wowed the judges once again in 2024, taking home a slew of accolades and the title of KBDi Australian Kitchen Designer of the Year (sponsored by Hettich Australia). The judges were awed by Sarah’s bold and striking design, confident planning and highly detailed documentation. They commended the designer on her aesthetic bravado and practical planning and deemed her the very worthy winner of the national title.
Melbourne designer Carmel Wylie of GIA Renovations swept the floor with her fabulous bathroom design winning KBDi Australian Bathroom Designer of the Year (sponsored by E&S). The judging panel loved every part of this designer’s presentation. They said her planning was thoughtful and comprehensive, and her material selections were on point. Carmel created a beautiful spa-like bathroom for her clients and left no room for error in her documentation, demonstrating great capacity for both the creative and technical elements of design.
The entry proved popular with consumers, too, with the bathroom winning Carmel the coveted KBQ People’s Choice Award and an impressive marketing package valued at over $8,000.
