The heart of the home, there’s no denying the obvious importance of the kitchen but when a kitchen not only looks good but is well designed, it’s the icing on the proverbial. And when it comes to kitchen inspiration, the Kitchen and Bathroom Designers Institute (KBDi) Designer Awards program is a great place to start. This year’s impressive winners of the state (and overall) titles are too lovely not to share.
KBDi Kitchen Designer of the Year QLD and KBDi Australian Kitchen Designer of the Year: Ashley Maddison of AM Interior Studio
Queensland designer Ashley Maddison cleaned up her state awards, taking home a suite of category trophies and the titles of KBDi QLD Kitchen Designer of the Year and KBDi QLD Bathroom Designer of the Year. She also took out the the prestigious KBDi Australian Kitchen Designer of the Year 2023 title for her submission.
With its beautiful textural layering, soft colour palette and exceptional space planning, the KBDi Designer Awards judging panel loved this kitchen. “The project looks fabulous from every angle, but with the designer’s careful planning, it’s more than just a pretty picture,” said the judges who also thought the material selections were both practical and pretty. Designed for a family of avid entertainers, this large kitchen really hit the spot.
KBDi Kitchen Designer of the Year NSW: Hilary Ryan of Impala Kitchens & Bathrooms
The judges loved NSW designer Hilary Ryan’s overall submission that we profiled recently as they thought the original concept was well presented, and the response to the brief was on point. “The documentation was clear and comprehensive, and the product and material selections resulted in a very beautiful kitchen,” said the judges.
KBDi Kitchen Designer of the Year WA: Alysia Pekel of Western Cabinets
The original kitchen footprint was far too tight for this family of foodies which resulted in WA designer Alysia Pekel borrowing space from an unused dining room to help deliver a long wish list for the keen cooks and bakers. “The concept was well presented, the plan well thought out and a beautiful selection of finishes made the project an all-round winner,” said the judges.
KBDi Kitchen Designer of the Year SA: Stefan Vignogna of Stefan Vignogna Joinery & Interiors
South Australian designer Stefan Vignogna’s bold kitchen impressed the judges who loved the concept and thought it was executed beautifully. “Documentation was clear, concise and professionally presented, and the overall feel of the project was consistent from beginning to end,” said the judges.
KBDi Kitchen Designer of the Year VIC: Olivia Cirocco of GIA Renovations
Sometimes small kitchen spaces need extra big ideas, and the Victorian designer Olivia Cirocco certainly delivered in this instance. The judges admired Olivia’s thoughtful planning and out-of-the-square solution for a limited space and they loved the material selections too.
