According to the HIA (Housing Industry Association) Awards handed out at the weekend, this en suite by interior designer Gavin Hepper is the best in the country for 2024 and, perhaps most importantly, homeowner Therese Tarlinton couldn’t agree more!
Concepts by Gavin Hepper just won the prestigious HIA Australian Bathroom of the Year Award 2024. The judges loved the confident use of texture and colour without comprising functionality or privacy and also commented how much they loved the designer curves and round skylight in this complex design. The striking tiles and considered lighting in this bathroom is both playful and practical, with its functionality and abundant storage.
Homeowner Therese said the bathroom is part of a well thought out master suite perched on the top level of her new build home in Sydney’s Hunters Hill, looking out onto the treetops. The space is very private, away from their teenagers.
“When we chose Concepts By Gavin Hepper for our home, it was because weโd seen the blue kitchen Gavin had created that won an award. We loved the layers of texture and how every element was considered. We hired him to do the initial concepts but loved his work so he and his team ended up doing all the spaces inside the home.”
She added: “A Catherine Hillier artwork was the inspiration for the master suite with its pink, blush and orange.ย The space has a large bedroom and 11-metre walk-in robe and it feels tranquil and serene.ย We wanted the ensuite to feel indulgent but quite minimal.ย The rest of the house has lots of organic curves and very high ceilings with round skylights to match.”
She admits that when the blush pink grout was first applied to the white tic-tac tiled, curved walls, it was shocking! “Gavin assured us that it would come together perfectly but we were nervous. The tiler spent weeks in that one room but his attention to detail was mesmerising.”
And it did indeed all come together perfectly in the end. “In the morning, the sun rises through the curved window, the floor feels warm under my feet and the shower cocoons you,” says Therese. “Itโs a really calm, beautiful space.”
Gavin said: “Whilst the accolades and industry recognition are a great honour to receive, the best reward is the satisfaction from our clients. This project was only achievable by our wonderful clientsโ complete faith in our vision during their design journey and the incredible support from our trusted supplier partners and the execution of our dedicated team of trades that work alongside us.”
