Kasia Dudkiewicz’s journey with art began at a very young age. “I grew up immersed in and captivated by my late auntโs artistic expression, always feeling an irresistible pull towards all things creative. Some of my earliest memories are of lying on a wooden floor under her work desk, surrounded by the smell of paint, the texture of paper under my fingertips, and the sight of paintbrushes dancing across canvases. Her magical workspace mesmerised me and captured my imagination.”
Her discovery of macrame and fibre art came shortly after becoming a mother, seven years ago. “Though I canโt recall the exact moment I first saw it, I vividly remember the feeling: an undeniable pull and instant attraction to learn more.” She started knotting with wool, which proved too soft, and soon found herself scouring local stores for ropes! “My first project led me to clear the shelves of a local hardware store, and from there, my passion blossomed.”
Over the past two years, Kasia has turned her art into a small business, Knotted by Hand, selling her artworks and collaborating with clients to bring their unique visions to life. “Each project, whether a large-scale macrame installation or a personalised wall hanging, has been a rewarding journey of creativity and connection.”
Her customers are primarily interior designers and stylists, drawn to her custom pieces to add bring interest, warmth, and texture to their clients’ spaces. “Fibre art is a wonderful addition to places like spas, cafes, offices, restaurants or hotel lobbies,” says Kasia, who hails from Poland but now calls Victoria’s Macedon Ranges home. “I also work with homeowners and business owners who desire unique, bespoke art that complements their specific decor styles. Working with me means collaborating to create something truly special and personal. Each piece I create is a labour of love.”
Fibre art offers a unique and tactile alternative to traditional paintings, she says, bringing a different dimension and texture to a space. “Unlike paintings, fibre art introduces a sense of warmth and cosiness through its natural materials and intricate craftsmanship. Its tactile quality invites touch and interaction, creating a more engaging and sensory experience.”
