I have a blanket draped over my legs as I work from home, which means it’s officially getting colder. And what better way to celebrate almost the start of winter, by attending The Big Design Market’s ‘Almost Winter’ markets?

The event runs later this month at Melbourne’s Royal Exhibition Building, hosting over 250 independent designers, more than 70 artisanal food brands, an incredible art installation and an exciting fashion runway.
An array of homeware and furniture brands are exhibiting including Ilk Studios, founded by Charlie Bush in 2021. Ilk Studios’ handmade furniture focuses on compelling shapes, clean lines and bold curves.
From Sydney, Authete make small batches of handmade everyday essentials. They experiment with a range of objects, such as incense holders, jars, vases and much more, all of which will be available to browse at the markets.
Fiona Roderick, a Welsh-born artist, will be selling her prints at the markets. Her printmaking reflects the natural world, focusing on different Australian birds, on prints, cards and tea towels.
A pop-up fashion runway will showcase the latest collections from the fashion labels featured at the event. At 12pm on Saturday 24 May, models will be walking, dancing, and moving their way through the building adorned in new, bright pieces.
For the kids there will be show bags, prizes and a a dreamy creative play space. Created by artist Irina Nazarova, the immersive environment is designed to encourage imagination and creativity.
Little ones also have the chance to create their very own flower crown, which they can colour, cut out and decorate.
