When Australian interior design darling David Flack produces something new, we all sit up and take notice. And while the talented designer is best known for his work with Flack Studio (he designed Sydney’s ACE Hotel as well as the home of Australian popstar Troye Sivan), today’s project is David’s own Melbourne home that he shares with husband Jason Olive.
Located in Richmond, the unique property was originally built in 1900 and features two bedrooms as well as an additional home office space. The home boasts the incredible attention to detail that has seen Flack Studio rise to international acclaim – incredibly, the practice has featured in Architectural Digest’s AD100 three years in a row.
Cathedral ceilings and clerestory windows make the relatively small abode feel lighter and brighter and landscaped gardens create a haven-like effect in what is a fairly urban locale.
There’s custom joinery designed by David as well as an over-scaled marble shower and bath area that sports curved radiuses. Rosso Levanto marble makes a further statement under the bathroom’s vanity mirror.
“This property combines a mix of playful materials giving each space in the home a distinct mood – it’s as though this property has its very own personality. I have a feeling it’s going to make one lucky homeowner very happy,” says Marshall White sales executive and auctioneer Jack Nicol, who launches the property to market today (7 February).
The kitchen is another luxe space – chic embellishments include Calacatta Viola marble as well as a rare custom striped marble kitchen sink. “It’s not often that we come across a residence where colours and vibrancy of design marry with its urban surroundings,” says Jack, acknowledging just how special this property is.
“Whilst we were renovating, we wanted to maintain the bones of this humble Victorian worker’s cottage, whilst also customising the facade to inject warmth and better reflect our personality,” says David of the home that is expected to fetch up to $1.4 million.
“This home has been an absolute joy for us to come back to each night and has served both as a beautiful oasis in a busy city and as the perfect place to have our family and friends visit.”
