What are your thoughts on adding a bit of razzle dazzle to the kitchen? Cool or tacky? Do you like a few standout unique touches, or do you think a kitchen should be kept simple with clean lines and plain surfaces?
Granite Transformations’ resident trends expert Jessie Harvey says bolder splashbacks and colourful kitchens are one of the most popular trends in kitchens this year. “We’re seeing a tendency towards vibrant colours in kitchens and an easy way to update your kitchen without opting for a full makeover is to add a colourful splashback over the existing surface.”
The kitchen makeover specialists’ splashbacks provide protection from moisture and grease and make a decorative statement. Their new range, Trend Mosaic Slabs, are mounted on a thin and flexible backing board and the quickest and smartest system for laying glass mosaic tiles on large surface areas like kitchen walls, alcoves and splashbacks.
“They can be installed directly over any surface with no need for ripping out the old material,” Jessie says. “This reduces installation times, eliminates waste and produces a highly professional finish that is ready almost immediately.”

Not such a fan of shiny. I think the earthier metallic materials such as copper, pewter and bronze look amazing on a splashback. There’s all sorts of fantastic products aside from tiles to get this look, like metal sheeting and antiqued mirror.
