Jewellery designer Samantha Wills launches style and decor mag

Aussie jewellery designer Samantha Wills has an eye for all things stylish and she’s about to launch an online magazine about entertaining and decor. I’m excited!

SW Style will allow a look behind the scenes of Samantha’s stylish and creative world and promises to inspire.

“I have a love for all things creative,” says Samantha, who lives between New York and Sydney. “SW style is a look into my personal projects, ranging from company events, creative projects, décor, entertaining and style.

“It will showcase everything from my handmade invites through to my iPod playlist and cocktail menu! I’m hoping it will be a great inspiration reference for your next creative project.”

I’m a big collector of Samantha’s jewellery. I wonder if we might see an SW homewares range one day?

Styling kits for sale online

What a cool idea! The folks at Prop Hire Online are selling different sizes of pre-filled styling kits containing everything from fishing line and all kinds of tape to glass cleaner, glue guns and lint rollers. Another fab addition to the site which has a great ‘Find an Assistant Stylist’ directory too. In a previous post I shared super stylist Sibella Court’s tips for what you need in your styling kit. Read it here.

Can you give Louise her first foot in the door of the interiors industry?

Last week I met (well, virtually) design graduate and Interiors Addict fan Louise Reeves, who is desperately looking for her first break in the industry. Can you help?

Check out these pictures of a bachelor pad she decorated and styled for her friend. The girl has potential, right?!

The 23 year old, who graduated from the prestigious Design Centre Enmore in November, says: “My dream is to have my own business; a homewares and furniture store in Sydney that I could run my interior design service out of. I would also love to get into product design and design furniture. But right now I am looking for paid or unpaid work, anything to gain experience and get my foot in the door.

“I am more partial to the decoration side of interiors as opposed to construction so to work with likeminded people would be fantastic. I am really willing to do any kind of work in order to gain access to the industry and understand that I will have to work my way up from the bottom.”

Louise describes her style as eclectic, bold and modern. “I love to use a healthy dose of colour and pattern and believe that the best spaces can come about by taking risks and pushing boundaries. I am inspired by the elegance of Hollywood regency and vintage Art Deco decor and, in my travels to Sweden, by the beautiful simplicity of Scandinavian design.

“My favourite designers are Brendan Wong, Kelly Wearstler, Greg Natale, Thomas Hamel, Jonathan Adler, Burley Katon Halliday and Tom Dixon.”

She got off to a great start by winning a ticket to a seminar with Melinda Ashton Turner and Chelsea Hing at decoration + design later this week, in an Interiors Addict giveaway. If you can offer Louise any work experience, an internship, mentoring or assisting work, please email Jen at interiorsaddict@gmail.com

New Aussie site launch: In A Designer Home

I’m often bemoaning the state of eCommerce in Australia, especially when it comes to homewares, but all sorts of great Aussie sites have been launching recently. One of the latest is In a Designer Home, which brings together some of my favourite brands to one online store. There’s a real emphasis on Australian designers too, which is great to see.

From Armadillo & Co rugs to Dinosaur Designs tableware and vases to Norman + Quaine furniture, Idh has collated a really great range which promises to be ever evolving. Idh would rather see people spend a little more on original Australian pieces which will be passed down through a family, rather than cheaper, replica imports.

Based in Sydney’s Surry Hills, director Jamee Huntington says: “We are supporting the Australian design community that has so much to offer. We noticed a gap in the market and saw the opportunity to support innovative designers through online retail. The Idh team has a strong interior design background so Idh was born from the constant need to supply clients with beautiful and unique products.

“Our aim is to sell quality products that will travel through time with you and be passed on to future generations. With new products and designers always jumping on board, we are constantly recreating and reinventing the way we showcase design. Not only do we offer unique products, we also strive to excel in great customer service, leaving our consumers with an enjoyable shopping experience.”

I love black and white schemes

This is currently burning on my desk (I know, OH&S!) and one word: YUM!

What a great headboard!
