There are some universally controversial topics when it comes to interiors and how we live and one that never fails to start a heated debate is whether you use a top sheet (or just stick to the fitted bottom sheet) or not, and why? It’s up there with how often you wash your towels (and your sheets for that matter) and whether to chop your cushions or not. Calm down, people!
So I’m possibly putting my reputation on the line today by revealing that I do not (shock horror) use a top sheet. None of us do in this house. And I’d never actually considered it. I thought they were just for hotels or for when you stayed at your Grandma’s and she had old school wool blankets instead of a doona. Maybe it’s an English thing?! But no, you Aussies are divided in your opinions too.
There are two very common explanations I hear for using the mysterious-to-me top sheet. One is that it means you can wash the doona cover less often and just wash the top sheet instead in between times. But is this really that much of a time-saver? I guess putting those quilt covers back on can be a real headache.
The other reason given is so you can still have something over you if you get too hot for the quilt in the night. Don’t you people know the solution to that is to simply stick one foot out of the side of the quilt? Or is that just me?!
Anyway, all jokes aside, how we make our beds is a highly personal thing and so it should be. We spend a lot of time in our beds after all. And that’s why I’m always thrilled when brands like Manchester Collection offer all the possibly options you could ever want and don’t just sell sheet sets (because for me that means a completely useless to me top sheet going to waste). Of course if you’re a top sheet subscriber, the sheet set is ideal for you!
Manchester Collection offer sheet sets, as well as separate top and fitted sheets, but they go one further with their range of mega king and mega queen sheets to make it easy to style even the largest sized beds in the new season’s latest colours and trends. Their highly functional mega sheets cater to most modern mattresses with a 50cm deep wall to ensure maximum and secure depth coverage.
Not only that, they also sell bed sheets for adjustable beds. Allura Linens Split King Sets are suitable for a split king bed, with the flat sheet and pillowcases all featuring a cuffed and piped header for a polished finish while the 50cm fitted sheet wall allows for movement when the bed is adjusted and includes an extra elastic to move with your mattress as it extends upwards and downwards. They also sell long single sheets.
And when it comes to material, we all like something different, don’t we? I’m a linen sheet girl myself but it took me years to make the change from cotton. Now I love how they get softer with each wash and their always slightly crumpled (but in a good way) look which means I wouldn’t even consider ironing them.
Manchester Collection have cotton (in all thread counts!), stonewashed, jersey, bamboo, sateen and linen bed sheets. And there are patterned and plain options depending on your aesthetic. I prefer a plain quilt cover but give me a striped or gingham fitted sheet to go with it and I’m a happy girl.
