If you’re tired of adding to the “buy it, break it, bin it” cycle this Christmas, Melbourne glassblowing studio Hot Haus is making a compelling case for slowing down and choosing gifts with soul this Christmas.

The independent studio, founded by celebrated glass artists Amanda Dziedzic and Laurel Kohut, is known for its joyful colour palettes, playful forms and meticulous craftsmanship. This season, they’re encouraging Australians to ditch disposable gifting and instead embrace good design, good glass and good times; handblown pieces made to last a lifetime.

They’ve just released a vibrant new Christmas collection filled with one-of-a-kind glass pieces designed to spark delight and endure generations. Expect coloured vases, iridescent vessels, sculptural objets d’art, and a brand new series of sparkling handblown Christmas baubles—each one unique, each one made slowly, mindfully and locally.
“We hope people invest in objects with soul,” says co-founder Amanda. “In a world of mass production, our pieces are filled with colour, personality and longevity. They’re the definition of buy well, buy local.”

If you’ve ever wanted to peek inside a working glass studio, now’s your chance. Hot Haus is hosting its annual Open Haus event this weekend; an energetic, festive day filled with molten glass, colour, creativity and the chance to meet the makers behind the magic.
Saturday 13 December 2025 | 10am–4pm | Hot Haus Factory, 12/52 Sheehan Road, Heidelberg West.
Visitors can expect behind-the-scenes studio access, artist meet-and-greets, limited-edition pieces and plenty of inspiration for their Christmas shopping list. There are also hands-on workshops for the ultimate experience gift.

This weekend’s workshop highlights include:
Hot Glass Experience: Their classic introduction to glassblowing, make a solid paperweight and a blown orb.
Santa Special: Make a Bauble in this 60-minute festive workshop to blow your own ribbon-ready ornament.
There are also private group bookings for 6–to-20 people; ideal for creative team outings and festive catch-ups, and gift vouchers from $50, perfect for Kris Kringle or last-minute shoppers.
