Multi-functional and size-conscious, Pottery Barn’s new Small Spaces range stopped us in our tracks recently with its clever balance of form and function. Featuring sofas with in-built storage, extendable tables and a moveable clothes rack to name just a few pieces, the new collection is not only super clever but it’s affordable too.
“Customers love Pottery Barn’s comfortable, relaxed style and focus on timeless design and that hasn’t changed with our latest collection. We just saw an opportunity to offer more diversity in size, functionality and value. The Small Spaces collection focuses on size-conscious, multi-functional pieces that work in any home, big or small,” says Pottery Barn’s vice president and divisional merchandise manager Michelle Hummel.
But while this collection is designed for use anywhere, we predict it will be a massive hit for Australian apartment dwellers – a rapidly expanding demographic. “In this collection we thought a lot about creating furniture and decor that could serve multiple purposes: a coffee table that becomes a side table, or a kitchen cart that easily transforms into a book shelf. It’s beautiful, thoughtfully designed furniture at great value that captures the relaxed, classic style for which Pottery Barn is known,” says Michelle.
One of my favourite pieces from the range is the Dublin Stackable Shelving Unit – mostly for its versatility but its industrial lines certainly help. “Up to four units can be stacked to meet the exact storage needs of any room,” says Michelle.
The Alice Gatelag Table is a great one for apartment dwellers with its drop-leaf sides and shelving underneath. “It transforms from a compact dining table into a handy storage unit in an instant while the Rainier Galvanised Storage Cart is a three-tiered rolling trolley that will come in handy almost anywhere from the bathroom to study,” says Michelle.
Another clever design is the compact Bryant upholstered sectional sofa – it comes with a clever storage chaise and the cushion lifts to reveal a spacious compartment for storing cushions, blankets or anything else.
The Modular clothes rack will no doubt prove popular too with its simple styling and versatility. “It offers chic and compact open storage for clothing and shoes,” says Michelle.
The collection launches in Australia next Tuesday 14 February.
