Achieving a coastal vibe in a home may seem obvious and easy, but getting the balance right is no easy task. This Bondi apartment however, is beautifully done.
Kathy Collins of Urban Splash, the owner and woman behind the design, says: “Furnishings throughout the main living area mix periods and styles and clean lines and raw woods create a low-key designer vibe. Both the coffee table and sideboard have a classic feel to them but look far from retro in the neutral scheme. All of this is further accented by homewares with bold graphic typography as points of interest, like an oversized tin letter and framed sailing flag. A rattan rug adds warmth.”
Timber wood panelling on the living room walls, painted in the same crisp white, reinforces the nautical feel. “Being a cosy floor plan, typical of beachside apartments in this area, natural light is paramount. As such the home is decorated in an all white scheme, to bounce light from the balcony window around the space,” Kathy adds.
In the main bedroom the guests are introduced to accents of red, with great vintage finds like the stack of suitcases.
How cool is the blue fish wallpaper in the kitchen? The good news is if you like it, you can actually stay here, as it’s available as a holiday let.
A claw foot bath and fun tiered shower curtain (buy similar online at Urban Outfitters) add wow factor to the otherwise very simple, white tiled bathroom.
In the second bedroom, playful nautical elements like life rings mounted on the wall add a sense of whimsy. White plantation shutters open inwards from windows, allowing natural light to be filtered, depending on the time of day.
