Up-and-coming local designers have the chance to win a $2,000 grant to help them gain professional qualifications next year, thanks to IKEA Rhodes and TAFE NSW โ South Western Sydney Institute (SWSi).
To be in with a chance, they must demonstrate their creativity by redesigning a corner of their own home using images of IKEAโs products from its iconic catalogue. Entries will be published on the Lidcombe Xposed Facebook Page where members of the public will be encouraged to show their support by โlikingโ their favourite design.
The top 5 entries with the most Facebook likes will then be printed and displayed at the Rhodes store between Monday 30 December 2013 and Friday 10 January 2014, where customers will get the final say.
As many as 3 local designers will be awarded a $2,000 IKEA Rhodes grant towards their studies at TAFE SWSiโs popular design school based at Lidcombe, from February 2014.
The competition was officially unveiled last night the opening of the 2013 Designing Your Future exhibition at Sydney Olympic Park. The deadline for online entries is Wednesday 18 December 2013.
Store manager Michaela Quinlan said the grant was an opportunity to support local designers and one of Sydneyโs top interior design schools. โIKEA has been working in partnership with TAFE SWSi since 2010, giving local design students the opportunity to gain important industry experience through our work placement program within our IKEA Rhodes store. By offering local designers the chance now to gain financial support towards their studies, we are excited to further support the local community and the development of young talent when it comes to home furnishings and life at home.โ
TAFE SWSi Institute director Peter Roberts, added: โWe are focused on giving all our students the chance to gain job-ready skills. By partnering up with IKEA Rhodes, our students are given a better chance of finding employment in the highly competitive design industry.”
