Situated in Sydney’s Northbridge, this Californian bungalow underwent a complete renovation recently, with the addition of a lower floor and complete reconfiguration of its original structure. We think the results are gorgeous.
Kitchen
A little bit Hamptons with some luxurious Hollywood touches thrown in, the owners desired a family home that didn’t compromise on luxurious details and preserved the period features of the original abode.
Guest bedroom
“The owners wanted to retain period detailing and where possible, cornices, picture rails, windows and detailed ceilings were reused,” says the project’s interior designer Nathan Gornall of Kennard Gornall.
The additional lower floor houses a kitchen, living room, bathroom and garage and this blends seamlessly with the original home.
Living room
“To maximise light in the lower rooms, we used a subdued palette of pastels for the soft furnishings,” says Nathan of the soft, muted textiles and the feature tile splashback in the kitchen.
Girls’ bathroom
We love some of the unexpected details like the patterned tile in the children’s bathroom. “We used quilt-style tiles and custom cabinetry that maximised the narrow space,” says Nathan.
Library
The former dining room was transformed into a library which leads into the study. “Leather, cobalt blue fabric and incorporated timber book cases deliver a masculine energy that is balanced by the lightness of Australian-made, hand-finished mirrored tiles above the fireplace,” says Nathan.
Master bedroom
The master bedroom is the most luxurious part of the home – silk carpets, silk drapes and a silk bedhead complete the look.
