Deco Glamour collection is very Great Gatbsy

I’ve always loved all things Art Deco but the imminent release of THAT Great Gatsby movie (have you seen the trailers? It looks magnificent in every way!) has me loving it even more. And no doubt we’ll see a resurgence of all things Art Deco in fashion and homewares very soon.

The latest Grace Garrett Deco Glamour collection at Emily Zizz is positively swoon-worthy! This is just a small selection from the huge range of patterns and colourways available in wallpaper, fabric, cushions and lampshades, and, eventually, rugs. Geometric shapes and patterns are already being seen everywhere in interiors this year, so the Art Deco look fits very nicely. Maybe it’s time to bring back symmetry? Are you a fan of these patterns?

Anna Spiro’s new website plus news of a book and second wallpaper range!

Ever since I’ve written this blog, I’ve wished Anna Spiro had a website. Because I can’t get enough of her gorgeous work. And last night it finally happened! What has been a holding page, ‘coming soon’ for far too long, became a wonderful thing!

Looking at images of Anna’s work always makes me feel happy. It’s a riot of colour and pattern and she is undoubtedly the QUEEN of mixing and matching. She makes it look so easy! One of the things  I like about her is that she’s not much of a self publicist (not that there’s anything wrong with being one). She lets her work speak for itself. There’s her popular blog Absolutely Beautiful Things of course, but the fact she hasn’t had a website for years and has still remained so busy and well known is testament to her talent. The Queensland designer is also a great reminder that not all fabulous design happens in Sydney and Melbourne!

Perhaps even more exciting is the news Anna is working on a book with Penguin. Cannot wait for that one! And she’s also onto her second wallpaper range with Porter’s Paints (I love the first one so much that samples of it cover my fridge!). Hooray! [Read more...]

Like a wallpaper feature wall for free?

If you live in Sydney and you’d love a feature wall in your home, wallpapered for free, you could just be in luck. Boutique wallpaper brand Moore & Moore would like to do the honours, in return for photographing the room for marketing purposes.

Moore and Moore Flannel-Flower-Demask

You must live in Sydney and the wall must be papered in the Flannel Flower Damask design shown here, BUT it must be in the white on sage colourway as shown below.

The new Adore Home magazine

The new Adore Home magazine came out yesterday and it’s probably my favourite issue yet.

It’s a fashion special and among the treats are a look inside interior designer Greg Natale’s and illustrator Megan Hess’s wardrobes. I wrote the feature about the home featured on the cover, which was the work of Greg Natale Design. The wallpaper in this family home, belonging to fashion boutique owner Angela Perikic, will blow your mind!

Home Beautiful, March 2013

In a new regular feature, Jacqui Greig reviews the latest interiors magazines.

I know this is terrible, but with the sheer volume of magazines I purchase each month, I sometimes struggle to remember if I’ve bought Home Beautiful already – their covers tend to get a bit ‘same same’. Don’t get me wrong, obviously they’ve hit the nail on the head when it comes to branding… maybe it’s their use of colour? This month they’ve gone with a gorgeous blue teal on their masthead, and a charming rustic country outdoor setting.

Highlights

1. The quirky cool home of Charlotte and Philippe in Odense, Denmark (story by Eckmann Studio and photography by Bjarni B Jacobsen). The bright pops of colour have me itching to pick up a paintbrush (the purple velour furniture is insanely fabulous), and the bathroom is brimming with character thanks to panels of ‘Paperback Stacks’ wallpaper by Tracy Kendall (available from The Collection). The house is actually a villa, called ‘the church house’ because of its distinctive architecture.

Greg Natale wallpaper launch at Porter’s

I’m sick so I was really disappointed to have missed the launch of my friend Greg Natale’s wallpaper launch at Porter’s Paints this morning!

The Porter’s showroom in Waterloo was turned chevron for the occasion! How fabulous!

Wallpaper & trinkets, in a bathroom? Why, yes!

This little bathroom is in an old converted shop/terrace in Surry Hills. Its residents collect beautiful objects from across the world and decided the bathroom was somewhere that the smaller items could be displayed. Add some Neisha Crosland wallpaper and you definitely don’t get your average bathroom!

“The house has warm and earthy tones so we wanted to keep this aesthetic continuing through,” says interior designer Brooke Aitken. “The bathroom door is in its original timber unfinished state and was the starting point for adding the light timber veneer and cladding.

“We wanted the small bathroom to feel very large but also very special and as much as we all worried about putting wallpaper in a bathroom, it seems to be coping very well. We were lucky in that we had height so could extend the wallpaper around the walls for detail without it being in the line of water.”

The handcrafted nature of the bathroom extended to the choice of handmade tiles on the walls (from Academy Tiles). “It’s the detail of texture that harks back to the time that the house would have been originally built,” says Brooke. [Read more...]

Greg Natale’s striped wallpaper is finally in store!

Your reaction to my posts about Greg Natale’s striped and chevron wallpaper range for Porter’s Paints has been 100% excitement so I’m sure you’ll all be happy to hear it is finally available in stores.

Books, samples and stock are now available nationwide at Porter’s and will soon be available in the States through the Sydney Harbour Paint Company.

A house of two halves by Greg Natale

It’s always a delight to share one of Greg Natale’s stunning projects here. They’re guaranteed to look gorgeous, of course, but this is a really interesting one too. It was done in two stages: first the front of the house, and then, a few years later, the back. “The front is more pretty and feminine and about her. The back is more about the husband, a builder.”

The formal living room (above) is Greg’s favourite part of the 1940s red brick house in Sydney’s Five Dock. “It’s just stunningly beautiful. I love the green, orange and yellow together, I always have. It’s very Brady Bunch.”  [Read more...]
