Homewares with (a tasteful) Australiana twist

Everingham & Watson is inspired by the Australian lifestyle. School friends Susie Everingham and Liz Watson introduced their brand to Brisbane with a pop-up shop in December 2011. They had so much fun and such a good response, they decided to start an online store.

They’ve established their own line of E&W original items, including pineapple and Australian map blackboards, hand printed tea towels, stationery and jewellery. Everything has a deliberate Australiana theme. There’s also a selection of enamelware and colourful ceramics.

Interiors photo month on Instagram. Wanna play? Here’s how…

Who is on Instagram? Who knows about #photoaday? Who wants to have some fun and be creative with their phone and interiors-inspired photos? If you read this blog, you know you do!

Fellow blogger Fat Mum Slim came up with the super fun idea that is Photo a Day on Instagram and I thought it would be cool to start a specifically interiors version. Before doing this, I asked her permission rather than just ripping it off. We have manners here in the blogosphere. Thankfully she said yes. Thanks, Chantelle!

My trend report in Luxury Home Design magazine, out today

I was delighted to be asked to write a trend report for Luxury Home Design, which is out today. I picked metallics, and by that I mean accessories and furniture in gold, silver, copper and bronze tones.

Let’s face it, silver and gold will never go out of fashion, but copper (or rose gold) hues seem to be making a bit of a comeback. Yesterday I featured those gorgeous gold and silver objets from Mr Pinchy & Co and I’m currently lusting after the brass, stainless steel and copper homewares from Georg Jensen’s Ilse collection (yes, it is my birthday on Sunday!).

My first blogging conference. Squeal!

This weekend I’ll be attending Nuffnang Blogopolis 2012 in Sydney and I’m so excited to spend an entire day talking about blogging, learning about blogging, listening to and being inspired by bloggers and just well, soaking it all up!

It has taken me a very long to time to actually think of myself as a blogger (like I had to pass some kind of test, make a certain amount of money out of it or have a certain number of unique visitors) but I’m there now. It’s been 14 months but it feels like I’ve been blogging forever (in a good way)!

Decorative crabs, skulls, milk crates, grenades…new brand Mr Pinchy & Co has it all

A new brand inspired by a brass crab in a back street shop on holidays is producing some of the coolest and most on trend decorative pieces I’ve seen in a long time.

Mr Pinchy & Co (named after that crab) makes ornaments inspired by the everyday and, frankly, random, in a variety of finishes. First came the crab, but later a milk crate, hand grenade, skull, whale jawbone, lightbulb and more.

“Whilst on our travels we came across a small and very simple sea crab in a brass homewares store down one of those many unknown back streets you seem to be drawn to when abroad,” says Michael Beer, who founded the brand with wife Louisa. “Falling in love with its simplicity, rawness and character we hashed out an idea for a brand that would embody these traits but with a more raw design emphasis and after locating a group of artisans we were happy with, Mr Pinchy & Co was born last year.”

Already stocked in Coco Republic, they’re now looking to build relationships with smaller boutique stores and interior designers and stylists.

“We always saw Coco Republic as our top echelon retail partner and it was extremely gratifying to be recognised by such an icon in the Australian design industry and be stocked by them. We think it’s very important to have a presence in the boutique stores too. We see potential strong stockist partners as the guys that are offering a lifestyle experience to their clientele; unique homewares, fashion, jewellery and even food.” [Read more...]

Sunday Snippets: the best of the week in interiors

  • I shared this competition from the Life InStyle trade fair which I’m judging alongside Mr Jason Grant and Lucy Feagins of The Design Files blog. Have you entered yet?
  • I enjoyed interviewing Melbourne interior designer David Hicks, who just opened an LA office and had some great stuff to share about design.
  • I launched my competition with Wicked Wix to win a year’s worth of candles and the good news is, you still have until noon on Friday to enter. What are you waiting for?!
  • Ex Real Living style director Mr Jason Grant offered Interiors Addict readers an EXCLUSIVE opportunity to join him for a VIP shopping tour around Sydney, visiting his favourite stores with him and learning stylist secrets. There’s still time to book your place for next week.
  • I featured a cool new product that lets you hang plants upside inside. No, I don’t really understand how it works either, but it’s pretty clever!
  • A stunning Art Deco inspired bar opened in Melbourne’s Brunswick on Friday night and I shared some snaps with you beforehand.
  • I reviewed this lovely book New Vintage by stylist Tahn Scoon.
  • I spent Saturday morning at a session with super stylist Megan Morton about putting the love in your home. It was awesome. Read all about it. Her home is in the current issue of Vogue Living. Well worth a look.

This coming week I’m looking forward to attending the Writing about Interiors, Style and Design evening class at Sydney Writers’ Centre. I know I shouldn’t really need it, right? But I think you can always learn something new and it’s great to hear other people’s perspective on things.

What are you doing this coming week? Jen x
